TV: On Jessica Sanchez and Pinoy cheating

Jessica Sanchez is a contestant on the 11th season of American Idol. I did not need to tell you that, though, since the Philippine media have been bombarding us about her since the show started last January.

This girl.
Playing the race card, the Philippine media have been telling everyone how great Jessica is. In fact, every primetime newscast--24 Oras, TV Patrol, Aksyon--has a daily item about her, perhaps to drum up support for her to win the TV contest.

This support is good on paper, of course, but what actually happens in real life breaches fairness and honesty. In the hopes that Jessica becomes the 2012 American Idol, these media entities have been encouraging Filipinos to cheat.

American Idol is a singing contest in the United States. To get the winner, the show encourages viewers to vote for their favorite contestants through phone calls, texting, or through internet voting. And according to American Idol's official rules, only individuals living in the United States and its territories are allowed to vote.

However, there are Filipinos who choose to ignore this rule. They happily vote for Jessica Sanchez, through many methods I will not anymore publish here. And instead of condoning these cheaters, the Pinoy media is happy to encourage them to do it.

The media may not have televised or printed these unfair instructions, but their silence on this matter is deafening. And since I work in the media myself, I know some of my colleagues who publicly post these methods.

Besides, public forums for these media entities are filled with posts of Pinoys proudly declaring how they are cheating. Take these posts from a TV media's Facebook feed:

Dirty cheaters.

This phenomenon is ironic, since the current political climate frowns down on fraud and dishonesty. Majority of Pinoys are calling for the heads of former President Gloria Arroyo and Chief Justice Renato Corona for alleged fraud, so shouldn't they also avoid committing this type of wrongdoing?

But it's not surprising really. Many Pinoys kind of live in a world where they do no wrong. They are the first to cry racism when foreigners criticize them, but then completely deny how they are racist to local foreigners like Indians and the Chinese. Similarly, for them, cheating is not cheating when they are the ones doing it.

Completely in denial.

  2. wHY WOULD you consider it cheating when Filipinos (such as yourself jerk!) are also AI viewers?

Aren't the viewers of the show supposed to be the ones who should vote?

And besides? you seem to be too sure the voting mechanism in IDOL is so UNmessed up? well dude you're in for a big surprise!

  3. Hey network war!

Even though Idol is shown around the world, that does not mean the whole world can vote. Read the rules again.

This is not like PBB, where it is specifically stated that Pinoys outside the Philippines can vote.

    Seriously, read the rules.

If you watch Idol closely, host Ryan Seacrest calls the votes "America's votes". The Philippines is not part of the US, is it?

Also, try a little kindness. Try calling a few more people on the internet 'jerks', and get ready to be hacked. I (and other people) know your IP address, so don't think you can hide in anonymity.

  5. And by the way network war, your blogs suck. Both are like prostitutes who do not own their own bodies, exposing their nether parts to ad clickers.

Try creating your own content, instead of copy-pasting from legitimate sources, without quoting these sources.

You're a fraud too--a plagiarist in particular--so no wonder you're so tolerant of this AI vote cheating.

  6. Kahit naman bumoto ang mga pilipino through facebook sa pinas, hindi naman counted yun. pero ang mahalaga, ipinapakita ng mga pinoy ang suporta nila kay jessica. besides, deserving naman si jessica sa performances niya, kaya naeencourage nya talaga ang mga amerikano na iboto siya. last time na nag online voting, nakablock lahat ng FB online voting sa pinas. dont worry, high tech pa din sa america, my reserach team sila kung paano mafilter ang number of votes from US and outside US.

  7. pisara..do you think only the Filipinos are doing these kinds of voting for AI?!? You then are so close-minded. Stop posting about your opinions cause they're all a load of bull. And, study some more english man. =))

  8. Thanks for the suggestion, swihet, but I don't need to be schooled by someone who does not know how to use an ellipsis, and one who uses too much punctuation marks. Get that?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

YES. I want Jessica to win pero sana walang daya. Jessica worked hard kaya sana 'wag natin sirain yun. Kung di man tayo makaboto, idaan na lang natin sa cheer, i-tweet niyo siya ng words of encouragement, at syempre prayers. I'm really hoping for the best para kay Jessica.

  10. Finally, someone who makes sense. Yes Leann, I agree. I have nothing against Jessica. So what if she wins? Or doesn't win? Does it matter? Remember that AI is not anymore as relevant as before, and winning the title does not matter. If you're good, you'll be famous and successful, even if you do not win.

Do you know how much controversy it will bring Idol if Jessica wins because of massive illegal voting from the Philippines? There will be tons of lawsuits, mostly against Nigel Lythgoe and the AI staff, charging them of letting the illegal voting go on.

This is America's contest, so I hope no one in the Philippines meddles in it. But of course, that is not what is happening.

In truth, I am appalled at how this TV reporter tweets about voting for Jessica in the Philippines, even though he is covering CJ Corona's impeachment trial.

  11. While some kababayans are eager to learn and explore all possible options, others, like our Balitang America LA Correspondent warn how doing so may do more harm than good.

“I think we should follow AI’s rule on who can vote (US/territories). Breaking it might create backlash against her and Pinoys,” Yong Chavez said.

    http://www.asianjournal.com/lifestyle/gel-santos-relos/15548-your-vote-can-help-jessica-sanchez-become-the-next-american-idol-.html

“Voting for AI and you’re not in (any) US territories is CHEATING! Ang tawag diyan.. flying voters! Voting on AI na hindi taga Amerika!,” kababayan Pat Punzalan says. And Filipinos get this.

  12. even if votes were cast from outside usa, the AI voting process was designed to only count votes cast from within the continent of usa. if your intention is to destroy the image of the ai contestant, you will be sorry to even have posted this on twitter. tsk tsk tsk.

  17. Hey Stefania18!

You're not that proficient in technology, are you? Try to study more. Hotspotshield hides your computer's local IPs, thus votes when you use Hotspotshields are accepted. Skype votes are also accepted. Votes using Globe are also accepted since they are directed to AT&T.

But whether votes are accepted or not is not the point. The point is that Filipinos are willing to break a few rules for some perceived noble cause, then go in denial when they are called out for it. Just like drunkards, or like drug addicts. Just like you.

Race should not be an issue here. If someone is Filipino, does that mean all Filipinos should give support by default? That's the highest form of racism. That's akin to Arianism.

  18. oh yeah, I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to IP addresses, I don't tend to operate 'cause it has a lot of process to do, just like what happened to Thais !!! But those votes were still guarded.
It's not by default as you are saying dear !!! LOL !!! It was all our support !!! At&T could recognize numbers from the Philippines. Americans are already aware of "roaming numbers" !!! OH my !!! They are not dumb to allow votes from any where else outside their territories !!! Why should I have to deny things in which I didn't do ?!?
I think you're one of those blogger-addicts who were trying to make some noise just to own FAME !!! well, why not SEND this blog to ABS or GMA for your own cause !!! And I think you are more in denial !!! because you won't admit that you're one of those Filipinos who has this crab-mentality !!! Naku day !!! Umapela ka na lang sa American Idol !!! I-file mo tong hinaing mo !!! INGGITAN EH !!!

  19. Nyahaha! Someone here is guilty. I am just gone for a few days tapos kumukulo na ang balitaktakan.

Don't be too serious about this AI voting. Is AI worth cheating for?

Wake up people. We have a lot of work to do to improve our nation. We have a lot of work to do so as to improve our self-esteem.

Nope, I am not looking for fame. But your constant flaming adds page views, and adds ad dollars. So thank you.

And by the way, we should really give the concept of 'crab mentality' a rest. Envy is a universal concept, and it is not just present in Filipinos. Having our own term for it is demeaning and insulting. It's like we're being racists to ourselves.

  24. So sad.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's cheating because the rules state only votes within the USA or USA territories count. So if people from other countries are using I.P. changer software and or lying about their location using various online websites or programs, its cheating. It makes the voting unfair for all the other contestants, for one contestant, to have a whole other country voting for just them because of their race and or talent. I also think because of all the cheat voting it prevented Jessica from winning and put a dark cloud over her time on A.I. and even now she is known as the cheater, even though she had nothing to do with it. My opinion is no way Phillip Phillip was better than Jessica but he won a rigged show and I think the cheat voters are to thank for that. Because after the scandal there is no way A.I. could have allowed Jessica to win and prove cheat votes got her there. Wake up people its called "American" Idol not World Idol for a reason, and just because you watch the show doesn't give you the right to lie and vote. I agree its so sad that people can't see that by cheating they hurt Jessica in the end.
