REVIEW: Moron 5 and the Crying Lady

Title: Moron 5 and the Crying Lady
Director: Wenn Deramas
Producer: Viva Films
Distribution: Viva Films
Date of premiere: April 7, 2012

Moron 5 and the Crying Lady is undeniably stupid. But that's the point of the movie, so I guess it succeeded right there.
  • The actors were terribly miscast. The five looked the same and acted the same way, that it was hard to determine who was who. Members of an ensemble cast should be different from each other for an ensemble piece to work.
  • I felt like somebody else should have been cast. Perhaps Thou Reyes for his dark skin, or Paolo Ballesteros to act effeminate?
  • Because the five actors are not good at comedy, their "moronic acting" came off amateurish, like their characters were just pretending to be stupid.
  • Were they really stupid, or just pretending to be stupid?
  • There were times when the characters act unbelievably stupid, like thinking they could talk to a fallen man on the street, with a knife to his chest.
  • There were times when they act normally. Luis Manzano's character could drive a car, while Martin Escudero could count change.
  • Martin Escudero was great in Zombadings. Why was he incompetent here?
  • John Lapus stood very much taller than the five young actors here. You'd wish he was the star of the film, and not the Moron 5 actors.
  • John Lapus was great because he was a natural comedian. The jokes that worked came from him, including the Kris Aquino impersonations, and the Shaider monologue.
  • The jokes of the five actors did not look spontaneous, and look rehearsed. They were probably rehearsed so they're not funny.
  • There were scenes and characters introduced even though they did not have relevance to the plot. Predictably, these scenes and characters were forgotten the moment the film can.
  • The bad thing was that these scenes and characters may not be funny, so their inclusion were all the more pointless.
  • There were too much pop culture references inside the movie that you'd miss the jokes associated to them if you did not recognize them.
  • In short, it was not that funny to warrant viewing.
RATING: .5 stars out of 5
SUMMARY: Bad casting, bad direction, bad everything. Only John Lapus saves this movie.
